As part of the Middleburgh community’s Fall Festival festivities earlier this month, the new official Village of Middleburgh Flag was formally placed by Middleburgh Central School student Ava Shinaver, who had designed the flag as part of the Village’s Flag Design Contest that was held earlier this year.
Ms. Shinaver’s design features a white, blue, and green tri-color design, with the white representing the peacefulness of our community; the blue representing resilience; and the green representing agricultural knowledge. Additionally, the flag features a shire horse that represents strength in agriculture, Vroman’s Nose, and the Schoharie Creek.
“When the Village started this process, I knew that our community would respond in-kind with a design that would make us proud,” commented Village Mayor Timothy Knight. He continued, “Ava’s flag makes us proud with its dynamic design and meaningful symbolism.”
The new Village Flag was placed on a utility pole in front of Village Hall as part of the festivities, as Ms. Shinaver was joined by her family, MCS Social Studies Teacher Katelynne Schuttig, and Mayor Knight in the flag raising. Mayor Knight and Village Trustee Robert Tinker donated funds towards purchasing the flag, which was printed by Gettysburg Flag Works.
