Village Buries Time Capsule
Tokens, photos, menus, items, and – even foodstuffs – from the year 2025 were placed in a time capsule on Friday afternoon and buried by Village officials at Memorial Park. It will not be reopened until 2050.
Spearheaded by retiring Clerk Melanie Laraway, Deputy Clerk Rebecca Kelley, Intern Antonio Remache, Mayor Timothy Knight, and resident David Avitabile, the project was a continuation of a previous time capsule that was buried in 1997 by former Mayor Art Wargo, former Supervisor Richard Hanson, and Mr. Avitabile; it was unearthed last year as part of Heritage Day. The time capsule was donated by Coltrain Funeral Home.
Among the items included:
- Menus from Pasta & Grill, Mrs. K’s, Hubies, Forget Me Not Soda Shoppe;
- Digital and physical photos of the Village, including originals from 1997;
- 2025 MCS Year Book and a photo album donated by Middleburgh Rotary;
- T-shirts from this year’s Timothy Murphy 10K Run/Walk and Green Wolf;
- A fortune cookie from Peking Chinese Restaurant and recent newspapers.
