At a Special Village Board Meeting on Monday night, the Village Board of Trustees approved a series of motions to improve Badgley Park by transforming the existing Skating Rink into a Basketball Court. The Department of Public Works (DPW) Crew recently excavated near the rink and found that the curbed wall was not connected via rebar into the pad.

The Board authorized the DPW Crew to remove the curbed wall, authorized DPW Superintendent Cole Keyser to secure quotes on resurfacing the pad, and authorized Trustee Amanda Fernandez to secure quotes on a pair of basketball hoops and perimeter netting. Each motion was unanimously carried.

Installed in the late nineties as a community project by Middleburgh Rotary Club, the skating rink proved difficult to operate as it struggled to hold water. Former Village Trustee William Morton attempted to revive the rink, but it faced the same structural issues as before. The DPW Crew removed the curbed wall on Wednesday morning.

“It is the Village’s intention for our constituents, both young and old, to be able to utilize our park spaces more frequently,” commented Ms. Fernandez, who has been spearheading the project as Commissioner of Parks. She added, “With the combination of the unique art park, new sitting areas, and basketball court to-be, we hope there will be something for all residents to enjoy at Badgley Park.”
